Valentine's Day...

Happy Valentine’s Day!

So – does that need an apostrophe? *ponders one of the great mysteries of life*

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have any romantic connotations for me (being a quite unattached teen), but it gives the perfect opportunity to reflect on God’s love. God loved the world so much that He gave His only son to die for us (for me!) so that we could live forever with Him in heaven. (John 3:16) Wow! And then, in one of my favorite passages, Jesus expounds upon 'true love.' By keeping His commandments, we will abide in His love. Think! Abide means to continue to be sure or firm; endure. It makes me think of being wrapped up in a huge blanket of God’s love, just existing in it... safe, secure, at peace. He says His commandment is that we love one another, (John 13:34, 15:12, 17) and that by our love for one another, all will know that we follow Christ! (John 13:35) And, in 1 Corinthians 13, more attributes of ‘true love’ can be discovered. “Love suffers long and is kind, love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.” (vv. 4-8) This day, let us remember what ‘true love’ is. It is not getting... it is giving.
